Case Study

Celebrating Modern Theatre

The Alley Theatre, www.alleytheatre.org, entertains audiences with the highest-quality American works that celebrate the artistic achievements of its internationally acclaimed acting company. Productions are created in one of the largest and most complete facilities of its kind, supporting the Alley's collaboration with todays most talented theatre artists. Rehearsal and production studios meet the extensive needs of one of the few American Theatre companies that fully supports a resident troupe of actors, designers, artisans and craftspeople. Extending its reach into the community, Alley Theatre is also home to transformative educational programs that connect with the youth who represent theatre's future artists and audiences.

During the redesign of the Alley, three million gallons of tropical storm waters flooded two levels of the theatre, which Irvine Team quickly restored to performance mode in four months. Returning to the original project scope, Irvine Team then improved the design and functionality of the Center for Theatre Production, encompassing 100,000 square feet of rehearsal studios, a 60-foot ceiling scene shop, prop and costume shops, fitting rooms, a wig studio, storage area, and administrative and artistic offices. The facility's central plant, electrical services, building control, and data and security services were relocated to mitigate potential damage from rising waters. Irvine Team is currently leading efforts on the redesign of Hubbard Theatre that will offer an improved audience experience for theatre patrons.
